Welcome to the 2012 Pacific Cup Page
All Los Gatos Yacht Club Members:
Our club may be small, but our members have a depth of experience racing, cruising and sailing expertise that make us all proud.
Here is the latest update on Brainwaves and the 2012 Pac Cup. Jim Brainard will captain the J35C Brainwaves
in this year's Pac Cup race from San Francisco to Hawaii. Division splits and start dates and times have just been announced by the Pac Cup committee -
Brainwaves will start at 1330 on Tuesday July 17th. The starting line is off the Golden Gate Yacht Club, so you will be able to watch
the start from shore.
Known as "the fun race to Hawaii", the race is 2070 miles of adventure on the open ocean. To participate and to help ensure a safe passage,
the boat and crew must meet stringent requirements, and have passed an inspection by a Pac Cup inspector. You can get a glimpse of a day racing
on the ocean here.
Of the total crew of five, four are returning veterans of the 2010 Pac Cup race aboard Brainwaves, so expectations are high for a trophy finish. As with the 2010 race,
the public will be able to track the race progress through the Pac Cup website.
With less than a month to go, boat and crew preparations are moving along at a rapid pace.
We all wish the crew and support team the best!
Congratulations again to the Brainwaves Racing Team for winning Third Place in Pac Cup Division B. Ralph Manies reports that 9 boats started in the division and that their
"time was 6 hours 41 minutes and 52 seconds behind the division first, and less than 18 minutes ahead of the fourth place boat (all corrected times) - the division was a close division.
Elapsed time was 12 days, 1 hour, 13 minutes and 10 seconds."
Special recognition goes to Skipper: Jim Brainard, Navigator: Bob Brainard and Crew Members Andy Brainard, Andrew Rist and Blaine McCleskey for a great race! And thanks to Ralph for his work directing the Shore Crew
and for keeping us informed. Attached are two photos of the team members, the first taken aboard Brainwaves just after they arrived, and the second with Miss Hawaii and their trophy.
We are very proud that Brainwaves flies a LGYC Burgee.
